On October 8th we (three persons) will arrive in Beijing by plane and I have a few questions concerning our first day. The plan is to take the airport bus to Beijin train station, buy sleeper tickets for a train to Baotou Dong (Departure October 11th) then take the subway to Beijing North station and take a train to Badaling because we have booked a hotel close to Badaling. Seems to be a straight forward plan and it should be doable when our plane is not too late (estimated arrival time 9:30). Just in case that something goes wrong, I am thinking about alternatives and I am wondering whether I could get some advice here:
1. The plan is to take the subway from Beijing main station to Beijing North station. How reasonable is it to enter the subway with full luggage (backpacks + day packs) on a Thursday around lunch time? Is it too crowded and thus to risky? Would it make sense to take a taxi instead or would that just mean that we most likely will be stuck in traffic jam? If we take a taxi from Beijing main station to Beijing North station, how much would that cost?
2. If we are very late we might consider to take a taxi from Beijing directly to Badaling. Does anybody have an idea how much that would cost (from the airport or from Beijing main station)?
3. If our plane is late we might also consider to skip the purchase of the train tickets and buy the tickets when we return to Beijing on Saturday, October 10th. Do you think that such an attempt one day before departure will be too late for the route Beijing to Baotou?
4. It seems unlikely, but things may have changed. Is there any chance that we can puy the tickets to Baotou at Beijing North Station although the train we want to take will go from Beijing main station?
Thanks in advance for help with any of these questions!
